The Neonatology Unit of UTMB Health provides clinical care in a Level IV neonatal intensive care unit which admits approximately 900 babies per year. The 43-bed unit provides acute and semi-acute care for moderate and critically ill newborns, including ECMO, integrated subspecialty, and surgical care for complex congenital conditions.

Educated in India, Dr. Jain graduated with his Bachelor of Medicine, and Bachelor of Surgery degree from the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences in 1984. He completed his pediatric residencies at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research in India and at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield, Illinois. He then completed fellowships in neonatal medicine at the Royal Women's Hospital & Mercy Hospital for Women in Melbourne, Australia; B.C.'s Children's Hospital in Vancouver & Foothills Hospital in Calgary, Canada.

Subsequent to his education, the doctor attained board certification in neonatal-perinatal medicine and pediatrics through the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP). The mission of the ABP is to advance child health by certifying pediatricians who meet standards of excellence and are committed to continuous learning and improvement.

Holding an academic title, Dr. Jain serves as an Associate Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Neonatology at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.

Neonatology is a subspecialty of pediatrics that consists of the medical care of newborn infants, especially ill or premature newborns. It is a hospital-based specialty and is usually practiced in neonatal intensive care units. Neonatologists generally diagnose and treat newborns with conditions such as breathing disorders, infections, and birth defects, as well as coordinate care and medically, manage newborns born prematurely, critically ill, or in need of surgery.
