Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games is about to kick off on July 28th. Recently, all communities in Chengdu have started the “Beauty Mode” in an all-round way, and “Chengdu Makes Dream Come True” can be seen everywhere. Let’s go into two communities in Chengdu and visit the “FISU Life” of the residents.

Foreigners are integrated into community life.
In the early summer morning, Oliver, an Englishman, was using the videos of previous FISU as a “starter” in the neighborhood center of Tongzilin Community to guide residents to share the FISU story. Tongzilin Community in Wuhou District is the earliest international community in Chengdu. At present, there are more than 1,000 foreign residents from more than 30 countries and regions, and it is one of the most concentrated communities where foreigners live in Chengdu.

Oliver, from London, has lived in Chengdu for six years. At present, he is a part-time foreign assistant in this community. In 2015, he went to Australia from England to study, and met his later wife, a girl from Guangyuan, Sichuan. After graduating from college in 2018, he and his wife settled in Chengdu. “I am very interested in China’s traditional historical buildings, which are invisible in Australia and Britain.”
“I like to add a lot of interactive sessions in the classroom to attract more people to participate in our activities.” Oliver took out his own blue silk scarf and blue wristband for a live demonstration. “I would like to make some contributions to Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games in this way.”
In his spare time, Oliver also loves to shoot personal Vlog and record the life and customs of Chengdu. He said that many foreigners don’t know much about the southwest city of China. “My original intention is to let more foreigners know about Chengdu.”
“I hope I can buy tickets for my favorite gymnastics competition,” Oliver said. The gymnasts are spinning and jumping in the air with beautiful gestures. “Its flexibility is incredible, just like magic!”
The “exterior” and “interior” of the community are beautiful.
Into the Jinliyuan Community of Caotang Road Community in Qingyang District, the streets are clean and tidy, the parking spaces are neatly marked, the old people are drinking tea and chatting in the garden pavilion, which is comfortable and relaxing, and the old courtyard is full of vitality.
“In recent years, our community has been constantly updated and transformed, the environment is beautiful, and we live more comfortably and warmly.” Liu Huilan, a community resident in his 70s, said.
She pointed to the wall under the balcony of the residents on the ground floor. “The paint on the roof and the wall fell badly. In order to welcome Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games, we took the time to paint all the walls below the windowsill of the whole yard.”
Liu Huilan is also a staff member of Jinliyuan Community. She said that Jinliyuan Community has not only a brand-new “exterior”, but also the residents’ “interior” is changing with each passing day. At first, residents didn’t believe that the community really had welfare, and they don’t even care. But after a series of work such as renovation of old projects and community epidemic prevention, everyone “actively participated in and enjoyed every community activity.”
“I hope that the Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games will bring more benefits, such as improving community sports and fitness venues, so that the elderly can enjoy the policy of benefiting the people without leaving home.” Liu Huilan said.
During Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games, the inside and outside of Chengdu are quietly changing. In preparation for welcoming the world guests, Chengdu citizens have also made the city’s “exterior” and “interior” more and more beautiful. (Written by Chen Min)
