Ambient Electrical Can Offer A Solution When The Safety Switch Keeps Tripping

August 15, 2019 - /PressAdvantage/ - Ambient Electrical, based in Bronte, New South Wales, has announced that they are the ones to call when the safety switch keeps tripping and many other electrical problems. Safety switches or residual current devices (RCDs) are intended to detect any imbalance in current due to a fault to earth and automatically result in tripping or disconnecting the power. RCDs are designed to react fast enough in order to prevent an electric shock. More information about safety switches can be found at https://www.easternsuburbselectrician.net.au/services/safety-switches/.

Peter Stafford, owner/operator of Ambient Electrical, explains, “These life-saving devices can be easily retrofitted to all electrical installations. Safety Switches can be installed at the switchboard protecting all light and power circuits or anywhere on a power circuit protecting that point and beyond. It is imperative that all homes and businesses be fitted with RCD’s as they have significantly reduced the number of injuries and deaths caused by electrocutions.”

Peter continues, “We install, repair and test safety switches making sure they meet Australian Standards requirements. We only install quality safety switches manufactured by Hager, NHP and Clipsal.”

Reports show that safety switches are important as they protect people from being electrocuted and getting seriously injured from electric shock. They work by quickly breaking an electrical circuit in case there is a fault, similarly to when a person touches a live wire whilst also touching the ground. An electric current of around 30 milliamperes or 0.03 amperes through the human body can potentially cause cardiac arrest or serious injury if it persists for more than a small fraction of a second. RCDs trip or disconnect the wires from the electric power fast enough to prevent serious injury.

It is important to test safety switches to ensure that they are operating at an optimal state. A multifunction tester can be used for this purpose. It works by applying a controlled fault current from live to earth and measuring the operating time of the safety switch. This test can be done right after installation of the device. Thus, homeowners may want to take note of this when they are having their electrical system installed. To avoid unnecessary tripping, only one safety switch should be installed on any single circuit. If the safety switches are already installed, it may be a good idea to have them tested by a professional electrician, such as Ambient Electrical.

It is possible that the safety switch may trip even if the residual current flowing is less than its rated residual operating current. This is known as ‘nuisance tripping’ and it may have a number of causes, such as a current surge or voltage surge, or noise on the installation. It may also be that an appliance connected to the system is causing it to trip, especially those that have heating elements.

One way to check if an appliance is causing the so called ‘nuisance tripping’ is to disconnect all appliances from the electrical system. This can be done by switching off all of the circuit breakers for the various appliances and circuits that are connected to the tripped safety switch. Then, the safety switch is reset by flipping it back on. Each circuit breaker is then turned on one by one. When the safety switch trips, it is the appliance that is connected to that specific circuit breaker that may be the cause of the trip. If possible, it is recommended to disconnect the appliance from the system. Alternatively, its circuit breaker should be kept in the off position. At this point a call to a professional electrician needs to be made to rectify the problem.

Putin engineers shakeup that could keep him in power longer

Jan 26, 2020

MOSCOW — President Vladimir Putin engineered a surprise shakeup of Russia's leadership Wednesday, proposing changes to the constitution that could keep him in power well past the end of his term in 2024. Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev resigned his post after Putin announced the proposed constitutional amendments. Putin kept his longtime ally in the Kremlin's leadership structure, appointing him to the newly created post of deputy head of the presidential Security Council. The shakeup sent shock waves through Russia's political elites who were left pondering what Putin's intentions were and speculating about future Cabinet appointments. Putin’s proposed constitutional reforms, announced...

Sultan Qaboos bin Said, who modernized Oman, dies at 79

Jan 26, 2020

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Oman’s Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the Mideast's longest-ruling monarch who seized power in a 1970 palace coup and pulled his Arabian sultanate into modernity while carefully balancing diplomatic ties between adversaries Iran and the U.S., has died. He was 79. The British-educated, reclusive sultan reformed a nation that was home to only three schools and harsh laws banning electricity, radios, eyeglasses and even umbrellas when he took the throne. Under his reign, Oman became known as a welcoming tourist destination and a key Mideast interlocutor, helping the U.S. free captives in Iran and Yemen and...

On streets of Tehran, relief for now at no wider conflict

Jan 26, 2020

TEHRAN, Iran — Iranian newspapers proclaimed the country's attack on U.S. forces in Iraq to be "a dark night for Americans," and Washington's "first admission of failure in history." On the bustling streets of Tehran, however, there was relief Thursday that neither side appeared primed for war. “War is not something like the ‘Call of Duty’ game," said Dara Shojaei, a 23-year-old architecture student. “It's not a game you can play to win. There's no winner.” But with the relief came some mixed feelings about how far Iran should go to avenge the killing of Revolutionary Guard Gen. Qassem Soleiman,...

Stocks rise as China confirms trade deal signing next week

Jan 26, 2020

NEW YORK — U.S stocks climbed in morning trading on Thursday as investors cheered confirmation from China that its top trade official will head to Washington next week to sign a preliminary trade deal. The “Phase 1” accord is the opening step on a possible path toward a broader agreement between the nations. President Donald Trump has said he will travel to Beijing after the initial signing to start the second stage of talks. Every major index is on track for a record as Wall Street distances itself from a bout of anxiety over the last week because of tensions...

Soleimani, a general who became Iran icon by targeting US

Jan 26, 2020

TEHRAN, Iran — For Iranians whose icons since the Islamic Revolution have been stern-faced clergy, Maj. Gen. Qassem Soleimani widely represented a figure of national resilience in the face of four decades of U.S. pressure. For the U.S. and Israel, he was a shadowy figure in command of Iran's proxy forces, responsible for fighters in Syria backing President Bashar Assad and for the deaths of American troops in Iraq. Solemani survived the horror of Iran’s long war in the 1980s with Iraq to take control of the Revolutionary Guard’s elite Quds Force, responsible for the Islamic Republic’s foreign campaigns. Relatively...
